Verbalcharakter, Suppletivismus und morphologische Aktionsarten des indogermanischen Verbs (DFG)
1999-2006
The main aims of the project Verbalcharakter, Suppletivismus und morphologische Aktionsarten des indogermanischen Verbs are to determine the verbal character and meaning(s) of a number of Indo-European verbal roots and thus the pre-aspectual function (action type) of the primary suffixes attested with them on the basis of predominantly individual language studies. These investigations, which are to be published individually, represent an indispensable prerequisite for the study of verbal categories and should therefore be incorporated into the preliminary work for the preparation of the volume “Morphosyntax des idg. Verbums”, with which the applicant has been commissioned. In a second phase of the project, (a) defectivity and suppletivism in the other Indo-European languages will be investigated and (b) a typification of verbal supplementation relationships will be undertaken on this basis.
