You can apply for your studies at the University of Cologne via the online application portal on KLIPS 2.0. Applications are processed centrally via the Student Secretariat. On this page you will find detailed instructions on the application process. Which combination of subjects is right for you?

Which combination of study programmes is right for you?

All undergraduate degree courses at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities consist of two study programmes. This means that in order to study one of the programmes at the Institute of Linguistics, you have to choose a second programme. You can get help with the selection and decision at the Central Student Guidance and Counselling Services.

Admission requirements

The basic requirements to apply for a BA at the Department of Linguistics are:

  • the general higher education entrance qualification
  • English proficiency at level B2 of the European Framework of Reference for Languages
  • small Latinum and/or Graecum for some specializations (Historical-Comparative Linguistics, Ancient Languages and Cultures
