International Contacts & Activities
International Contacts
The Institute of Linguistics has many international contacts and co-operates with leading research centres such as the Max Planck Institute of Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, the Australian National University’s Department of Linguistics (College of Asia and the Pacific), the Maison de l'Orient et de la Méditerranée (Lyon), Edinburgh University’s Department of Linguistics, and the linguistics departments at Radboud Universiteit and the Katholike Universiteit Leuven.
Activities at the Institute of Linguistics
Faculty members at the Institute of Linguistics participate in a number of interdisciplinary research centres including:
- CCLS (Cologne Center of Language Sciences): The CCLS is a centre of teaching and research at the UoC Faculty of Arts and Humanities. In our modern mobile society, language diversity and multilingualism have become an essential asset in both traditional and newly emerging cultures and nations. Language diversity entails cultural diversity and thus leads to substantial flexibility in day-to-day activities. Promoting language diversity is thus an important goal in research, education, and the economy.
- cedis (Center for Diversity Studies): cedis is a research and teaching network spanning the faculties at UoC. Diversity, as entailed by global mobility and migration, is understood as both a characteristic trait and a great potential of the postmodern world and thus takes centre-stage in our research.
- CCeH (Cologne Center for eHumanities): The Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH) connects all the areas of the UoC Faculty of Arts and Humanities currently implementing and developing modern Information Technology in their research and teaching. The Centre supports the Faculty’s departments in promoting methodological and technical competences and combining a multitude of projects and research areas into a shared infrastructure, making them both more visible and more efficient. As a contractual partner of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts, the CCeH also assists in research and editing projects funded by the Academy throughout the state.
- Workshops and talks can be found announced on the pages of the respective departments of the Institute of Linguistics: General Linguistics and Historical Comparative Linguistics, Phonetics, and Linguistic Information Processing.
