KA³: Cologne Center Analysis and Archiving of Audio-Visual Data

(10/2016 – 09/2019)

The KA³ project aims at building a center for curating and archiving audio-visual data in the humanities. The main objective is to build a new user-friendly web-based self-archiving platform, that will replace the current setup used in the “Language Archive Cologne” (LAC). Furthermore, the project will develop tools supporting researchers in working with audio-visual data, including algorithmic analysis of audio data. These tools will automatically structure audio data along thematic blocks or according to the active speaker.

KA³ is a cooperation between the department of Linguistics (IfL), the Data Center for the Humanities Cologne (DCH), the Regional Computing Center Cologne Köln (RRZK),the Max-Planck-Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen (MPI-PL), the Fraunhofer Institute IAIS in Sankt Augustin, the archive „Deutsches Gedächtnis“ at the University of Hagen (ADG) und the “Digital Averroes Research Environment” (DARE) project.
